One is a newly Oscar-nominated thespian. The other, an actor having a year that could catapult him to the A-list. Together, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum make 21 Jump Street and unexpectedly hilarious action comedy, a movie that turns the tired nostalgic tv-show-to-movie concept on its head from minute one and wallops the audience with a fury of R-rated laughs. The movie is a pleasant surprise, considering all the gambles: it's the first movie Hill had a hand in writing, Tatum's first real comedy lead role and a pair of directors, Phil Lord and Chris Miller(Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs), untested in the world of live-action filmmaking.
Thankfully, it all played out smoothly.
